On the way to Tikal we stopped at a lake in Guatemala. We passed a couple of big lakes. Notice the complete lack of condos on the edge of the lake-- this is definitely not the USA.
The Temple of Masks has been taken apart so that people can see the masks inside. The Mayans built their temples on top of older temples, hence this just looks like a bunch of tiny temples.

A small tunnel in the room with the first mask took us to this second mask. It was dark in here, so we never got this good a view of it. Our only light was the small blue-LED flashlight you can see me holding.
Temple IV is the highest pre-Colombian structure in the Americas. If this looks like a scene from Star Wars, that's because they did shoot a scene here.
